This past sat.I was in Ptwn.Checked out Echos of Joy a homeless event on elm ave. They had food, clothes, free haircuts, health screening, even a DJ rolling old school.I got to shout out the masons and the eastern stars, and all the other groups behind this beautiful effort.Keep up the good work.
This past sat.was a true blessing. The Charles Black clothes drive was in ptwn and dozens of folks came by.I gotta thank Mr.and Mrs.James Wheeler along with Mimi and Nique for all of their help. This sat the 22nd there's a homeless event at 900 elm ave. in ptwn from 11-3.Call 393-8595 for info.
Everyone who knows Charles Black will tell you that I am a bit of a health nut. I didn't just get this body by eating just anything. That is what makes it so painful to walk into the 95-7 RnB kitchen and see all kinds of food I don't need right now from Sam's club: 3 cheesecakes, a couple dozen cupcakes, pizza, peanuts, and a six pound bag of pretzels. Dang I gotta go...
Man! Fresh Fest was crazy sat.night in ptwn.According to the folks at ntelos pavilion it was the second largest audience in the history of the venue.AND,that audience was up all night dancing and singing like it was 1995.
I was really looking forward to seeing "The Biz",and Doug E.Fresh.Biz had mic problems and cut his set short, and Doug had to go on stage before he was quite ready, but they both handled the situation like pros.Big Daddy Kane was sharp like a blade too.I respect that. I love concerts at ntelos, cause they're more like parties than shows. My cute little chocolate home girl Angie Stone is coming soon.I'm trying to catch that one too.
I can't focus on my job for some reason...can't stop thinking about that little italian place near the beach...the bakery on the blvd...the burger joint on the corner...that seafood spot near the mall...man I want some fried rice.
If you're one of the few folks in the world who's managed to lose a little weight, well first of all God bless you and keep it up. I've been trying, but I'm sitting here thinking about a burger right now. I see people walking at Mt. Trashmore errday and I admire them so much. One day I'm gonna stop and walk for a while myself. Share your success story with me,hit me up if you've lost a few, gained a few,it don't matter. We have to stick together . Hit me up either way.
For quite a few years now,Sonia has asked me to grow some hair on my head. Before we came to va.I had what amounted to two full time jobs.(radio in the morning,tv at night),and I didn't have time to hang out at the barbershop.Well now that I have the time, she said,"let it grow a little".It took me a while to get my mind around it,cause old habits die hard...but here we go.(you can joke me about it,I don't mind) I always kept a shaved head because it's easy to maintain, cheap too.
My wife is suffering with this pollen I feel for her cause I'm blessed not to be affected by it. I'm so glad it's getting warmer I don't care if my ride stays green. One of these nights I'm going walking,I tried last week, but Sonia was sleeping.Guess I shouldn't have watched the game first huh?We were over at the new PTC last week.We loved it. Perfect place to stroll,I couldn't find a meal though, what's up with that? Ended up hitting the snack wagon.
Ok,this is an idea that I posted on facebook.Tell your coworkers, you love them.Kinda like that old commercial"I want to buy the world a coke".I know some folks on any j-o-b are easier to love than others, but that's the piont.Let's spread a little love.Let me know what you think,757-499-9570,email@example.com,or just hit me on facebook.(and I love you)
Hey,guess what I did sat.? I went shopping! Now that might not sound like a big deal to you,BUT...I HATE TO SHOP.I've needed some new dress shoes for a while, and for the past year I've been saying that one day I was going to hit a store.Well I did it sat.It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be,and I didn't spend as much as I thought I would,so I'm cool. Now all I have to do is wear them someplace.Sooner or later a concert or play will roll through and...wait...forgot about the jazzfest, and Tyler Perry, and Steve Harvey...I got to go shopping.
Whew! It's been a while since I shouted at you.Blame it on me,cause that's where it should be placed.Yes I've been busy, very busy, just like you I guess, but that's no excuse.I have had my joy jacked by this cold icy weather, but I can't get by with that .I spend a lot of time on facebook, and yes I type like a fourth grader...but hey I should have blogged.I know it,you know it,errbody knows it.I can say I'll do better, but what does that mean?Until you can look back down the road months from now and say"That brother said he was going to blog more and he did mein" it's an empty statement, just a bunch of words....And it's not like there's not a lot to talk about. The dude who flew his plane into the IRS office(insert joke here). The woman who was drowned by a killer whale. The nude church here in va.The SOL drama. The gov. in s.c.Gays in the military.Women on subs.(I mean the ship in the navy for all y'all freaky folk).Tiger Woods.Haiti.Valentine's day.The Superbowl.Weight for a man.Way too much snow.My homegirl coming to a crossroads in her life. There's a lot going on,and we need to talk about some of it right here.I promise to try and do that . BUT...I'd like to ask something of you if I could...If you can find it in your heart, and your time to check on me now and then, and remind me to keep my blog tight.I will be in your debt. Thank you,and God bless.
I was over at Va.Wesleyan last night. They've opened a homeless shelter on campus for the week, providing food and...you guessed it,clothes.I hope to make another trip this week, this time with a van load of clothes. If you can drop off a few things at the studio this week,great.236 clearfield ave.in va.beach.497-2000.THANK YOU.
Well, here we are into 2010.It seems like the holidays went by in a flash, although I had a great time. For the first time in YEARS,Sonia and I chilled at home the entire day.It rained hard most of the day,so I just ate, watched tv and enjoyed my family. We ate breakfast with our next door neighbors.I discovered a dish called "funky grits".Trust me it's nothing new. It's plain old grits with cheese, eggs, sausage, and maybe some mushrooms,etc.BUT.It was good man.Now that the new year is here, errbody's talking about losing some pounds, just like last year.I can't front I want to lose a few myself,so lets all pray for each other, cause I'm getting hungry as I type this.I also resolve to drink more water,I figure that's something I can handle.I also want to do better with my attire. You see Charles is NOT a shirt and tie kind of guy.I'm going to try to do a pair of dockers maybe once or twice a month, and give the jeans a break.BUT.Man I love wearing jeans,(and sneakers, baseball caps, etc) .Pray for a brother.
Big shout out to the folks who donated toys to help the kids at W.A.L.K.I.N.I put a little of the video on this site.Didn't want to go overboard.I also put a picture of our tree on here.Teresa and Cocoa love this skinny little tree.It cracks me up.Take a look at it and tell me what's up.
I am really looking forward to the holidays.Homecooked food, seeing all of my peeples, and football 24-7.Life is good.I don't know if it's just me or not,but it seems to be calmer, low key, this year. That's cool with me.I feel blessed to be here. It's been a rough year for most of us in one way or another,so no need to trip.Just be happy,at least for the reason for the season. So you didn't get that Wii.So what? Go to a REAL tennis court.
I was grinding yesterday, going through all of the pictures of Cash4Clothes,so I didn't get anything on the website until last night.I'm sorry about that,I've got more stuff to show you.For now please enjoy these shots of the wonderful fo;lks who showed their support sat.Including ms.cocoa butter from the family. It was really touching to see errbody coming out in the rain and wind carrying those bags .There were so many people who refused the money, and asked us to donate it instead. There were so many folks who brought well over 10 items for their $10.It was a beautiful thing to be a part of and I want to thank each and err one of you who came out.It was God working. There are folks at the salvation army's centers around the 757 who's lives will change for the better because of you. AND I WANT TO THANK MY BIG BROTHERS FOR HAVING MY BACK.Cause it's hard for a big dude to find clothes.
Man.I had a great Thanksgiving.I ate too much, watched way too much football, and loved err second of it.Got leftovers for days, life is good. How was your holiday?I hope you got a chance to chill with family.I hope you got a good meal.
Here at 95-7 rnb we're trying to make sure everyone does.Check out our food bank efforts before you log off. This sat. the C.B.C.D.(my clothes drive) rolls through military circle from 11-1.You can get $10 for 10 gently used cleaned items. The mall has put aside $10,000 for this so you can get the whole family together, help the salvation army, chkd, and MAKE money.Everybody wins.Call me at 499-9570 if you need info.
Wow,it's raining,it's cold, and I'm a little tired, but today is a beautiful day.My raiders won a game yesterday.A game no one thought they would win. They played Cincy, number one team in the division at the time.I was just watching cause they were on.They're not on much ya know.I, like the rest of the world was shocked when they won.I know a lot of folks are saying "big deal" well yeah it is man.If you were really hungry you wouldn't sweat if it was BK.Mickey d,Wendy's,7-11,etc.You just want some food.
I wish I had the words to tell you how my heart has been touched by the c.b.c.d.The clothes are coming in faster than I can get them out,BUT HEY,I'm not complaining don't stop.It is a blessing. The folks at military circle are joining forces with 95-7 rnb on the weekend of dec.4 from 12-2.They're giving you Cash for Clothes.Get $10.00 for your gently used clothes.I've got more details on the way so stay close.
How was your weekend?Watched a lot of football and chilled at kazmos.I also ate too much. The temptation of a burger, man it's hard.I got my first one in about two weeks yesterday,it was pretty good.Today I thinking about fish. But I could go for some good baked ,fried,or grilled fish errday.
Listening to a coworker talk about love today.I was like wow,why are relationships so difficult. There must a hundreds of books on the subject. It's like weight loss, and drugs.I don't think "they "want you to get better. There's more money in division than unity.
It doesn't matter if your man,or woman won or lost.If you voted, you did your job.A few days ago in d.c. they honored the first black sen.Mr.Brookes who is in his 90's now.In his address he talked about how vital it is for the folks in washington to work together.I hope somebody hears that brother.
My brother sent me some more pictures of my nephew.I'll have them posted soon.Little dude is growing up so fast.
Big shout out to NSU and Hu!They both won sat.It was NSU's homecoming so it was very cool. You have to pay to tailgate now so a brother was not in that area, still nothing but love. I know my boy Craig Cotton is talking trash now after a win.I'm not mad at you man.
Tuesday is election day.I know that after last year it's not as intense this time...BUT...it's like a j-o-b,a bill, raking leaves, etc. You may veiw it as a chore, but it's a blessing,so let's go.Now it's easy for me to say that cause my precint is like a block away, and it takes me about 5 min.total to do my duty, still though...
I hate the negative adds. You don't learn a thing about the person endorsing the commercial, just that their opponent is supposed to be worse than them. What's up with that?
Today we paid another visit to the salvation army with a van load of clothes that YOU donated.Thank you so very much. While I was there I had a chance to speak with one of their managers. He told me that there are over 120 folks in the center next door as he put it"trying to get their lives back together."In a small way you're helping them do that.
A few days ago while a brother was digging some rnb trivia I talked to Leah,a student at Chowan. She's heading to the motherland in dec. and she mentioned some of the items that she and her fellow workers wish to take the kids. They need things like wash clothes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, sanitary pads, underwear, black socks, etc. If you can help me get a few of these things I'd appreciate it.Give me a call, shoot an email,or drop by 236 clearfield in va.beach.
What's up?I hope errthing's been cool with you since we kicked it last time.As for me I've been working a lot and that's about it.Had a chance to catch my s.c.state bulldogs going to work on nsu...lawd.Last time I seen a whupping like that my little brother was in the 1st grade, and didn't know the meaning of certain words,so he said them in my mother's presence.Well...my friends in education call that a "teaching oppurtunity". My mother called it cursing in front of your momma.I called it the worst whupping I ever saw.But anyway ,on the serious...where is the love for our hbc's?Dick Price should have been at the very least 2/3 capacity sat. when scsu was in town.It was not.Dude next to me asked me where everyone was.I had no answer. So talk to me,what's up?
Had a moment of pure joy last week.Went in for my checkup and I was cool for the most part..BUT...when that little nurse tols me I had LOST 5 LBS. I almost started to dance in the doctors office. After I calmed down I realized this is the beginning.Don't get me wrong I know I'm blessed,God is Good.I will continue to fight my battle with a positive frame of mind...BUT a brother is thinking about a 1/4 pounder right now...you know what...just give me a #2,and I'm cool.
I was surfing the net yesterday(showing my age right there),when I came up on a debate about Tyler Perry.Someone said his movies are bad for african americans because of the images they project.I was very surprised at how deep the emotions were.Several folks had a problem with him being in drag.Wow.When I think about how much Sonia loves Tyler Perry, how much her girls love him,and how much 95-7rnb listeners love him, well a brother was amazed.
I know nobody asked me but since this is my blog, and I've got a second let me say,I'm cool with T.P.His movies are not for errbody what movie is?I enjoy the comedy, the message, the niche that they fill, and I love the brother for giving black actors work.CAUSE WE ALL GOTTA WORK.You know a movie is just someone's vision. When you watch one you pretty much take a ride with them.So take it for what it's worth.BUT.What do you think?I would love to know.Hit me up.
Man I had a great weekend. Why?Cause it was stress free,relaxing...and the raiders won. With all the drama in my life the past few weeks it was nice to get lost in something as meaningless as a football game, and I loved it.You see Oakland seldom wins,so when they do it's a big deal In addition to my team winning.Dallas and New England lost,so I'm feeling pretty good right now.
I met this very nice retired couple this morning. They were so cool(he did radio back in the day). They talked about the trips they've taken, their kids, the low paying jobs, you know...the stuff folks talk about. But the more they talked the more I thought about the blessings, you know what I mean? Blessings that may not even seem like blessingsl at the time.
I've been down in s.c. the past few days.I lost my sassy little aunt Kate, and we had to handle that. She was my girl, and I LOVED her,but I know she's in a much better place.Right now I know she's walking around heaven cracking jokes.
On a lighter note...
While I was off work Sonia and I watched "Housewives of the ATL",....WHAT IN THE....?
Sat.I was in newport news at the ntelos store, rolling with the "Frawg" and working on my clothes drive.I love being in hampton and n.news, but lawd getting there is a trip.Getting across the hrbt is like a couple days work, well maybe not that long but it takes a while....BUT...it was worth it.I always meet some really cool folks every time I hit the streets of the 757.Speaking of Newport News,I need to know where poplar st. is.I may not have the correct spelling but that's close.Years ago I had family on that street.I'd just like to know how to get there and maybe roll down it one day,so call a brother.Thanks.Check out my "Bad News" video from this weekend.
Today we took a load of clothes to the va.beach salvation army.Clothes you donated.I wish I had the talent to put into words the feeling I get when I see folks giving from their hearts. BUT...we're not done. This sat.I'll be in newport news at the ntelos store on jefferson from 2-4.Please drop off a few things, like the jeans that stayed in the dryer too long.(that's my story, alright),the shirt that's the WRONG color, etc. You will be a blessing .THANK YOU.
Man,I had a great weekend. Why?Cause a brother was doing what he does best...chilling.I caught a nap late sat.afternoon,(Sonia was a little busy,so I didn't want to disturb her,ya know).Saturday evening I wanted to go someplace,so I hit 7-11 and picked up some lemonade.I know what you're thinking..."Charles,how do you maintain such a hollywood type lifestyle?" Well it's not easy. You have to really focus, and dedicate yourself.
On the serious,My clothes drive is still rolling,we'll be taking some donations to the salvation army this week,so call me(499-9570),or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need info on how to donate.Thank you.
Yesterday was Sonia's birthday,so I took her to see Maxwell,(and chrisette michele). That brother is one of the best live singers I've seen. The band was on point 100%.The final ingredient,"Wah Wah Watson" sat in.Yes,"the" Wah Wah Watson.Maxwell I got respect for you man.Sonia had a wonderful time.I did too.I saw a woman with white hair and somebody threw their underwear on the stage. That was almost as funny as the dude down front doing the lip-sync.Somebody should have tipped him,he was off the hook.
Big thanks to all the folks who bought me clothes for my drive at Pomoco nissan sat.I've got some video, let me know what you think....and...THANK YOU!!!
This past sat.I checked out the big dance at the phillipine cultural center on baxter road."Slide out the Sugars" a dance marathon by the american diabetes association. It was not a marathon as it turned out,(many breaks were taken),but it was a lot of fun. There must be a hundred different slide dances. How can one person learn them all?You can't.Check out the video,I know it's kinda dark, but hey...it's a dance.
