Camp Allen Readers Move It Madagascar Style with Radio Celebrity

With quick flicks of the wrists and a wiggle of fingers, Ben Mooersâ arms weaved and wobbled in the air above the heads of his fourth-grade friends. The sudden eruption into dance moves by the animated 9-year-old sent classmate Rebecca Hunter into a fit of giggles.
âI like to move it, move it,â Mooer sang loudly and Hunter chimed in. Suddenly, all of Barbara Prestonâs fourth grade class at Camp Allen Elementary School were dancing and singing.
Camp Allen sponsored a reading contest for a two week stint in January. Prestonâs fourth grade class swept the competition by logging more than 8,000 minutes of reading time. Thatâs roughly 400 minutes per child. Not a small feat, according to Preston, and well deserving of a visit from local radio celebrity Theressa Brown of 95.7 R&B last week. What the students didnât know, however, was what Brown was bringing with her to the party.
âIâve got presents for all of you,â Brown announced. âPlus, Iâve got tickets for all of you to go see Madagascar Live! tonight at Chrysler Hall!â
Brown showered the students with gifts, pizza for lunch, and cupcakes. She also worked with Seven Venues to score the free tickets to the show and brought a costumed actor to the school to visit with the students. But her real reason for being at Camp Allen, Brown said, was to read. The radio host put her vocals to the test by reading three stories to the students, all in celebration of Black History Month.
"Reading is one of the best gifts you can give to children,â Brown said. You can never lose the gift of reading.â
Brown promotes literacy through her Reading and Succeeding Program by visiting schools, daycares, churches and community centers to read stories to school age children. Media Assistant Angela Ferebee wanted to invite Brown to Camp Allen and spearheaded the January reading contest with the support of the schoolâs principal, Dr. Sheri Archer.
Students like 9-year-old Kerionne Ussin were thrilled.
âItâs exciting to have Ms. Brown read to us because she has such a great voice and she loves books,â Ussin said. âShe reminded us how important reading is and why it makes a difference in your life.â
âShe brought books I hadnât read before and they were cool stories,â Mooer said. âReading takes you to a whole new place and helps you to move it!â
I love my new lashes. Khadine is very professional and explains the entire process before touching your lashes. I normally wear mascara everyday, but with my new lashes I don't have to. They look very natural and I am very pleased. Thanks Khadine!!

Okay the day that I thought would never come is now here. Kristin is now filling out college applications. She's taken the ACT and now taking the SAT again and I feel like I going CRAZY!!! It's a very stressful, scary, but yet exciting process. Where does she want to go? She has so many colleges she is looking at like, UVA, Yale, UNC Chapel Hill, North Carolina A&T, Hampton and a few more. I know that she needs to leave home, but I don't want her too far from home. It seems like just yesterday she was my precious little baby girl and now she is 17 making decisions, driving to school and bossing Collin around. Well she has always bossed Collin around!! I don't want to let go, but I have to in order for her to be the young lady that she has been raised to be. So as I prepare for this next step of Kristin's life, I give it to the person who is first and foremost in my life and that's God. I know that God will protect her and keep His loving arms her. I know that He will help us make the right choice. I have taught Kristin to trust, pray and depend on God because He is faithful. I will keep you up to date on where she will be attending college.

Okay itâs time for the 4th Annual Day of Sharing with Theressa. For the past three years I have asking barbers and beauticians to volunteer to style or cut childrenâs hair for free for the first day of school. You know this event is very dear and near to my heart. Growing up in Moton Park in a family of thirteen, I would always wish I get my hair done professionally for the first day of school, but you know my mama could not afford it. Then one year I think I was about 12 years old and my mama made an appointment for me to get my little bit of hair done at beauty salon. I could not sleep the night before, because I was very excited. The only place I got my hair done was in the kitchen sitting on a stool as my mama sat in a chair beside the stove with the straightening comb. She would have that blue magic hair grease and dip that straightening comb in that blue magic hair grease, blow on it and fry your hair till it lay down. You had to keep that towel around your neck cause every now and then she would burn you or drop the straightening comb down your back and it would make you wanna cuss, but I only cussed in mind, cause I wanted to live!!!
Well the day finally came and I went to the beauty salon. The place was jammed packed and people were complaining that they were taking too long. It did not bother me; I was just excited to sit in the chair to get my hair done. When it was finally my turn, I just felt like a little princess and my dream was finally coming true. When my hair was done, I wanted to go visit all of my friends to show off my hair, but my mama was like you get out there and start sweating and mess your hair up girl, Iâm gonna hurt you. So I quickly came in the house and sat in front of the fan, scared that my hair would sweat back. On the first day of school, I had my school supplies that were given to us by the Salvation Army, had my hair did, and wore my sisterâs hand me downs, but they were new to me cause I never wore them and I was looking so cute.
Till this day I have not forgotten how I felt when I had my hair done for the first time at a beauty salon and I thought if I was ever in a position to give another child that same feeling I would. So with that said, Barbers and Beauticians letâs help make some little girl feel like a princess and some little boy feel like a prince. Remember when you give it always comes back, pressed down, shaking together and running over!!!! So join me in making sure our babies are looking cool on the first day of school!
If you would like to volunteer your services send me an e-mail Theressa@957rnb.com or call me 497-2000 ext. 232 by August 13, 2010
I canât believe that Kristin will be a senior this fall. It seemed like this day would never come, but now that it has come, it feels like it has happened too fast. We are discussing colleges, her dreams and goals, personal things and so much more. Sheâs driving and hanging out with her friends without me being present. I am so thankful for my relationship with Kristin. She helps me out in so many ways. My friends often say that they will have to commit me when she goes off to college. Hell I need to be committed now!!! Tell you the truth; I should have been committed when I was born!!! But Kristin is such jewel. Sheâs smart, beautiful of course she looks like her mother, okay I had to throw that in there. Okay back to Kristin, sheâs obedient, strong willed, fears God and me!!! Cause yall know I donât spare the rod. But soon I will have to let her and go and experience this world. I pray that she remembers all that I taught her and know that God is her provider and protector. Well I still have this school year, so I will enjoy this time with her. Just thoughts on my daughterâ¦..
Today I want to encourage you to join me by starting a, “Thankful Journal.” This journal will be filled with all the things that you are thankful to God for whether big or small. You may say Theressa I got so much going on in my life right now. The economy is out of control, my job is driving me crazy, and I have more bills than money. My children are driving me nuts! I just feel like my back is up against the wall and I don’t which way to turn. What do I have to be thankful for? Well have you really thought that although the economy may be out of control, God is yet providing for you? You have roof over your head and day after day God continues to put his protective shield over your home to protect you and your family keeping you from all hurt, harm and danger. He provides food on your table, cause God knows half of us could miss a few meals and still be okay. So for real for real, you are not starving. You talk about your job is driving you crazy but baby you still have a job. Do you know how many people who are out of work who would love to have your job? Ask God to help you find another one and step out on faith. Remember promotion comes from God. You talk about your bills. Well ask God to show how to be a good steward of your money. You say your children are driving you crazy. That’s what children do. Whose children aren’t getting on their last nerve? Just talk to God about them and ask Him to show you how to raise those children and remember spare the rod spoil the child!! And you say that your back is up against the wall. That’s where God wants you to be. So you can turn to Him and He can do what he does best, turn the situation around, work it out in your favor, grant you the desires of your heart, open up the windows of heaven and pour you out blessings that you don’t have room enough to receive. So grab your notebook, start with a piece of paper, grab a sticky note, do whatever you got to do and start that “Thankful Journal” today. Start telling God thank you for all His many blessings that He has bestowed upon you. Remember when you are thankful over a few things, God will make you ruler over many things.
I wanted Collin to experience one of the greatest bands of all time!!! He said that he really enjoyed hanging out with the old folks on Saturday! I told him that I am not old, I am just seasoned to perfection!!!!
This weekend my birthday celebrations wrapped up at Catch 31!!! It was so much fun!!!. I have been celebrating almost every night since June 5th. So now back to reality and back to getting on track with losing some weight!! Happy Summer!!!
What I know for sure as I turn 44!!!
I can no longer go commando, (meaning not wearing any underwear), because if I laugh too hard, sneeze or cough, I will tinkle on myself
I think about sex more than I care to talk about
My hormones are whacked!!
Gray hair grows everywhere and it looks scary!
My hot flashes are so bad that my hair sweats back to an afro
I have to sleep with a fan directly on me all night because I sweat so much
Sleeping naked is only scary when the cover is off
I love red wine
I have three best friends and one of them is questionable
I will always have fried chicken once a month
I still like my children of course I will always love them
I enjoy sitting down every evening with my children to have dinner
Cellulite is now my friend
When I wake up in the morning it takes me ten minutes to realize who I am and where I am
I donât like people
I canât see at night
My twins are growing longer and I can do tricks with them
I want to be in love
A secret is never a secret, because someone will always reveal to someone else what you shared with them
I canât remember one day to the next
I repeat myself often
I want to vacation in Hawaii
I want to go back to France
I love to give
I like talking on the phone to my sisters
I still miss my mama
I love God
I believe in paying tithes
My patience is thin
I can say,â No,â and not care what you think
Itâs hard to loose weight especially around the stomach
I think about sex more than I care to talk about. Oops, I said that already. I told you that I repeat things. But that was worth repeating!!!
My stomach and my twins are closer than I ever wanted them to be
My thighs rub together so much, I am scared when I walk I may start a fire
I miss my nice thighs
I know God forgives
Forgiveness is not so much for the person, but forgiveness is for you
I love going to church
My children need me less than I want to admit
I still canât cook
I love walks on the beach
I donât like crowds
I am shy
I like spending time alone
I love hymns
I want to spend the rest of my life helping children
Every now and then you got to cuss somebody out
and itâs all good
I want to live in a house near the water
I love to laugh and joke around
I cry often
Iâm okay with me
I love the color black
I love the Fall season
I love sitting in front of a fire place
I enjoy watching and reading love stories
I am moody
I know how to get up and leave when I am ready to go
When I have to go to the bathroom, I gotta go. I can no longer hold it!!!
My teeth are now teef!!
I know God loves me
I want to go to heaven
This past week we had the chance to host Laura the exchange student from France in our home. Kristin stayed with Laura and her family back in February. Laura was a very sweet girl. She said that she would not like to live in America, but she would love to come back and visit. She had a chance to attend church with Kristin, go to school with her and most of all shop!! It was a great experience having Laura in our home. Laura is heading back to France today and yall know she could not leave my home without me invoking God's blessings upon her and her family as well as God's protection as she travels back home.
Yes I am back on my weight issue. I must admit that it is really my fault. I have had a gym membership endorsement to go workout for free for three months. I did it for the first month and then pretty much got off track. I went back to my woe is me attitude. I then pulled myself back up for a minute and started walking for a couple of weeks, then back into the rut. I just donât know why I canât seem to get motivated, but yet I am still gaining weight. Itâs not how much I eat because I donât eat a lot. I know you are thinking yeah right you donât look like you have missed one meal, hell I have not missed one morsel!!!! .
So I stay home a lot and I hardly go out unless I have to for the children or if its work related. Well, I finally gaveaway all my little clothes from size 3 thru 8. I had to realize that I would never get into them any time soon. So now I am rocking a size 10 sometimes 12 and Iâm sure on a good day I can get into a size 14. I just need some motivation because I just donât want this to get too far out of hand. My mother was heavy and I watched her suffer through a lot of health issues because of her weight. So I will try today to get back on the track with this weight loss thing again. I plan on doing a 45 minute walk today when I get home and I pray to do this everyday. I just wanted to be honest because I get tired of people asking me how my weight loss is coming. So to be honest itâs not. Itâs not coming off, but you best believe itâs coming on. I must admit when I see friends who have stuck with their plan and lost their weight, I do get mad!!! I told my sister that and she said stop looking at people and do your own thing. Itâs hard trust me, but Iâm doing the best I can. So thatâs my truth!! So for those who are in this struggle with losing weight, my sista, my brotha I feel you.
Peace and chicken grease!!!
See thatâs my problem, fried chicken!!!
When I arrived at Lynnhaven Elementary, I was greeted by Principal Everett and their mascot.
I also bought baskets and candy for the children to make Easter Baskets!!!

You know I look forward to Wednesdays, because I get a chance to do what I love and thatâs reading to your babies with Reading & Succeeding with Theressa. Let me tell you, I know half of your secrets because your children tell me. What I love most about children is that they are brutally honest. If they did not like the story, they tell me and if they think that I look nice they tell me that too. I love to hear that most of all.
One time a first grader tried to mack me. For real!!! He first offered to help me pack up my books when I was leaving and I told him thank you, but I can do it. He then offered me a piece of gum. Now what is he doing with gum in school? I told him thank you, but no thank you. He then offered me a dollar. I was like no thank you. Then as I was leaving the class, he slipped me a piece of paper and told me if I needed anything just call him. I just took the piece of paper startled. When I got in the hallway, that little boy had his name and number on that piece of paper. I thought to myself that little first grader tried to hit on me.
Well you know what I wanted to do, go back in that class and ask that little boy who yo daddy? Cause if you are this smooth your daddy must be on point and wanted his daddy. For real dough!! Shoot!!!
But back to your beautiful, smart and talented children, they bring me so much joy when I visit their classes on Wednesdays. They know the importance of reading and they aspire to be so many things and I tell them that they can be whatever they want to be, but they have to know how to read!! Thank you for trusting me in the lives of your children. It is indeed an honor.
Happy New Year!! I hope you all had a great holiday. I truly enjoyed my vacation. The children and I spent a couple of days at Great Wolf Lodge. I even got on a couple of water rides. I screamed like somebody was taking my fried chicken off my plate!!! But it was fun. I spent the rest of the time in the hot tub, while the children enjoyed the water rides. The rest of my vacation I just watched Lifetime television, ate a lot of food and enjoyed some great bottles of red wine.
Now itâs a new year and once again my resolution is to lose weight. My stomach and my twins (yall know what I mean by twins right?) are now very close friends. The have been hanging out a lot lately. I want to break up the friendship. My stomach needs to go back in and the twins well at this age they are just going to continue to hang around. Hell Iâm learning to do tricks with them!!! Tricks likeâ¦. Nawâ¦. I wonât tell.
Anyway I had to get rid of all my size 8 clothes over the holiday cause they were squeezing the life out of me. I would look like I was ready to pop like the Pillsbury dough boy. But when somebody would touch my stomach, that shiggity did not make me laugh, I wanted to fight!!! So my goal is to lose 30 pounds by June. I know you may be thinking Theressa how much do you weigh? None of yourâ¦â¦ well I am now in a size 10 and honestly, I weigh 160 pounds. I have not weighed this much since I was pregnant and the children are teenagers, so I donât have an excuse except that food and wine are so good!! All the time!!! And all the time food and wine are good!!
A lot of you may say Theressa your weight, thatâs nothing. See I have to be comfortable for me. I am not knocking you if you are a size 10 or if you are 160 pounds, maybe that works for you, but it just doesnât work for me!!! So my first goal is to take a break from my usual glass of red wine in the evening. Okay you know me, my glasses of red wine in the evening. This is a tough one, because this is something I look forward to, so now I just drink water with my dinner, but I put my water in a wine glass and sip on it!!!
Oh yeah and last night I started working out with the new Denise Austin Boot Camp Video. I was sweating bullets two minutes into the video. Collin and my dog Meesha just kept staring at me like I was crazy. Later on Collin said that I really did look crazy trying to keep up with the video. I told him I was going to show him what crazy really looked like if he didnât go upstairs and go to bed. After he went upstairs, I cussed so much at that video, I had to ask God, the television, and the video to forgive me. I drank a bottle and half of water and still had 18 minutes to go. Mind you the video is only 20 minutes. Afterward I sat down on the couch sweaty, my hair had gone back to Africa, because my perm left, and I was sweating in places that I canât even mention.
Iâm still a little sore but guess what, Iâm going to pop that tape right back in tonight and look crazy jumping around till I jump some of this weight off. I do understand that Iâm older so itâs going to take a little longer for the weight to fall off, but I am not going to give up!!! Let me know if this is your New Yearâs resolution as well and some of your tips that you are using to accomplish your weight lost goal.
Peace and no meat!!! Well fried meat anyway!!!
These are some of the great treats we enjoyed as the children decorated the Christmas Tree!!!
Oh this is soo good!!! Pecan Braid which is a pastry dough twisted and braided with pecans coated with light sugar syrup.
Another great mufiin!! This is the cranberry orange muffin!!!It has crumbs of sugar coated on the top with real cranberries inside. These did not make it through the tree decorating process!!

Cheering season has officially started for Kristin. So that means one or two games a week. Plus she is a flyer, so my nerves are shot!!! I can't take her being up the air like that, but she assures me that she is okay. I just take my nerve pills before every game she cheers at.
You know I have always loved children. Growing up in a family of 13 and having millions of nieces and nephews either you are going to love or hate children. I just happen to love them. But I never knew how much I could love children until I had my own. I was very scared when I first had my daughter Kristin, but she made it so easy for me. She was such a good baby. She loved to play. She was very smart and loved watching old movies with my mama. Today she owns all the old movies they watched together and watches them faithfully. Movies like, Calamity Jane, Gypsy, Meet Me in St Louis, My Fair Lady, Carmen Jones, and the list goes on and on. Kristin has been my biggest cheerleader. She encourages me when I am down, teaches me how to relax and always helps me to look on the bright side of every situation even when I donât want to see the bright side. Sheâs only 16, but she has an old soul. She is a hard worker, beautiful, and I could not have asked for a better child. Not saying that we have not had our times, because I had to lay hands on her as they say in church, but she got it after a couple of times unlike her brother Collin.
Collin Stephen, my second child and the son I so desperately wanted. Collin came into this world hollering. The boy would not stop crying. We use to call him Hollering Collin. He would only stay with me and my mama. If someone would watch him for me, I would have to sneak out the house to leave him. But you know what Collin has been such a joy. He has a great sense of humor. Of course he takes after his mama. He is kind and very caring. He just eats too damn much and I often want to glue his mouth shut with crazy glue so my food can last longer. Now he has to be jacked every now and then. Yeah I said jacked!! I tell him no matter how old or big he gets I am his mother and I bought him into this worldâ¦.. Come on finish it with meâ¦.. Thatâs rightâ¦. And I will take you out!!! He thinks that I am crazy and guess what he is right.
You know after my divorce I was so afraid of raising my children alone, but with the help of my sisters, my mama, their fatherâs parents, good friends and Jesus it has not been as bad as I thought. Of course I would love for Collin to have a man in his life to mentor him. I know as single motherâs we are strong and we do raise our boys, but I know that a man is needed in a boyâs life. But for now he is adjusting well. I am very proud of both of my children and many times if it wasnât for them just loving me for mommy I would have given up. But God gave me these two precious gifts and I am so thankful for them. Yes they fuss and argue and get on each otherâs nerves, they get on mine and I know that I get on thereâs, but we love each other. We still watch movies together, sit down at the dinner table every night for dinner and talk, laugh, and discuss our day. They still greet me when I come home from work, when I see them, I still hug them and they still hang out in my room all over my bed. They will always be my babies. Kristin and Collin I am so grateful for you two. Thank you both for not only being my children but also being my best friends.

Look who stopped by the studio. 50 Cent!!! I was trying to get my eat on this morning with some amazing barbeque. And he walked up with his crew and I met him and then we took a picture!! Okay back to the food!! I know you are thinking barbeque in the morning. Yeap!! With coleslaw and baked beans. This is radio we eat anything at anytime of the day. All we do is eat around here. I stayed away from the baked beans because they get in a big fight with my stomach and the outcome is never good, if you are in my company!!! But the barbeque was from Big Camâs BBQ and I'm telling you it was so tender and the sauce was amazing. Thanks Big Cam!!! You know I had to get my tupperware out to take some home right? No shame in my game! 50 cent was a lot smaller than I thought and very soft spoken, kind and handsome!!! He has beautiful teef, I mean teeth! It was great meeting him this morning and it was great having BBQ for breakfast.
I'm heading to Jamaica baby for some fun and relaxation!!! I will be broadcasting live from Montego Bay Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort all Inclusive. Check it out!
Wow what a hard job, but someone has to do it!! I'll be in Jamaica November 3-8, 2009. I will be broadcasting live November 4-6, 2009. If you have traveled to Jamaica tell some of things that I should and should not do. My son Collin told me to get my hair in braids and try to get my groove back in Jamaica. I told him I never knew that my groove left!! What does he know about getting your groove on anyway at age 13!!!!
Okay..... My pole dancing classes are now over. We wrapped it up by learning to do a lap dance. So we have to put on a man's shirt and neck tie. I started freaking out cause I thought we had to tie the tie!! But we just had to put the tie around our neck. We danced to Princeâs, âDarling Nikkiâ You know that song is just nasty!!! You know how I feel about nasty stuff, right? Yep I love it!!!! Any who, we start out with the sexy walk and you know the touching of yourself. Now I have done this so much in front of other people, I have gotten use to it. I'll never be able to do it alone again!!
Okay now we have to take the tie and do something with it, that I would have to show you. I can't write it. I know you are thinking, you write everything else. You are right, but not this. After that we have to throw our legs across the chair. Why I knock the chair over? Shoot my legs were hurting. I'm not use to throwing my legs over a chair. Then we have to do this sexy dance in front of the chair and then snatch the tie from around our neck and throw it on the floor. My tie got stuck and I almost strangled myself. Okay by this time I am over this. Hell I don't have no man anyway. So forget this!!!
But the instructor tells me it's okay. The next part is that you have to get on the floor and do a lot of things to the floor. I really violated the floor that night and I apologized to the floor for that. Then on your knees doing more moves. Now my knees are killing me and since I forgot to put on lotion, you know my knees were really ashy. Okay then you have to turn around still on your knees and put your hips up in the air. This is just too much for me. I'm too old to be doing this stuff!! We then put our hands behind our back, with our head back and gyrate. This makes me dizzy. So when it's time to get up the room is spinning and I stumble!!! You know how your head feels when you have drank too wine. I had that feeling without drinking too much wine .
Then legs back over the chair and do the touching of yourself again. By this time, I don't want to touch myself ever again!!! Now what will I do for fun!!! Then we have to stand up and walk away and pull your shirt over your right shoulder, then your left shoulder. I get scared because if my shirt gets any lower something is going to fall out. No take that back, roll out!!! We do the routine about 5 times and on the third time it has become fun and I have the routine down packed.
Now will I ever do this for someone? Probably not!!! But itâs just good to know. Really it was a very fun five weeks and I plan on going back, after I finish soaking in Epsom Salt.
Brown Suga ( My name I used in class)
You know I have been in radio for a minute. I have met a lot of artist. I have interviewed them, taken pictures with them, introduced them on stage and even had breakfast, lunch or dinner with them. So I have learned to be pretty cool about it. Iâm not nervous; it's just become a part of me like washing my....., well brushing my teeth. That sounds better. So I have met just about every artist I wanted to meet and I am very grateful for that. But there has always been one artist that I have always wanted to see before I left this earth and that was Stevie Wonder.
So when I heard that he was coming to town I was jumping up and down telling the children. I was so excited!!! Stevie is such a legend and he has so many hits. Some of my favorites are, As, Do I Do, Ribbon in the Sky, Master Blaster, All I Do, Higher Ground, Knocks Me Off My Feet, Send One Your Love, I could go on and on!!! And believe it or not Kristin and Collin are just as excited to see Stevie Wonder as well. They both want to go to see the show. So I am looking forward to wonderful evening with Stevie Wonder in concert with both of my babies with me enjoying the concert.
Stevie Wonder coming to town Sunday October 25th at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Tickets are still available at COXTix.com or by calling 1-888-3-COXTIX. I can't wait to see Stevie Wonder!!!
Okay Monday was my third class at the Rio Dance Studio for my pole dancing class. Okay in this class we used a chair. We had to walk around the chair with the sexy walk. You know the sexy walk consist of touching yourself and yall know that is a private matter that should only be shared with me for me!!!! Any who, after that we have to straddle the chair and imagine our significant other is in the chair. Duh!! But I just imagine my imaginary boyfriend is watching me and not laughing at me. I can't tell you his name. Okay you got me..... Larry King. I love Larry King!!!!!!!
Well after straddling the chair we have to lie down in the chair and get all of our hips in the chair. Girls are falling all out the chair. Chairs were flipping over. If you are wondering if my chair flipped. You know it did!! Well I get back in the chair and then you have to lay back with your legs up in the air and keep opening and closing them. My legs are shaking like I have a nervous condition. Then we have to get up turn the chair around sit straight up with our legs again open and start swaying side to side. My legs were open some much, I was hoping that I would be able to close them after class.
My stomach, legs, butt, and mind hurt!!! But of course I will be back next Monday. I think we try the pole on Monday. So if you see me with a big bruise on my head, then we were on the pole!!!
“Brown Sugar” Oh yeah that's the name that I use in class!!!
My hips are so sore!!! No it's not what you may be thinking. I wish!!! You know it has been, well it's been a looooong time!!! Okay that's neither here nor there. Well anyway I am taking Pole Dancing Classes at the Rio Dance Studio, courtesy of my good friend Tanya. She not only signed me up but a couple of our girlfriends and let me tell you it is work. No I have not gotten on a pole and don't plan on getting on one, because I know that I will break my neck, back and everything else. Well we have the class for 5 weeks on Monday nights. So last night we did a lot of work on the floor. We had to do all this gyrating with our hands back like you are ready to do a back flip. We had to hold our head back and keep gyrating. That did not feel sexy to me. My head was spinning and my hips were killing me.
But I kept going like I knew what I was doing. The instructor said I looked like I was pain. I was like hell yeah Iâm in pain. Then we had to get in the position like you are giving birth, now who da you know what wants to get in that position. That position only reminds me of pain!!! Finally we get off the floor and start our sexy walks and riding the pony moves. Now mind you when you are doing the sexy walk you have to touch yourself. I only do that alone not around a whole lot of women!!! I felt like I was violating myself!!! After the class is over I'm exhausted. She tells us next week, we will use a chair to dance around. All I do with chairs is sit in them, now I have to do all these moves around a chair with no one in it. Just put a male mannequin in it to give me some incentive.
For real, I am having fun. We have women of all ages and sizes in our class and we all feel very sexy just the way that we are. So I'm gonna soak my hips tonight and get ready for next week!!!

Great trip. Can't wait till next year!!!Â
Well the countdown to the Hoodies is on. I was very disappointed with myself, because I did not lose the 20 pounds I wanted to lose before heading to Vegas. I was in a funk for a minute. But then I started counting my blessingsâ¦â¦ No I did not lose the weight I wanted to lose, but I am healthy, my children are healthy, I am in my right mind. I know many of you beg to differ. Anywayâ¦. I have a job thatâs paying for me to go to Vegas, I have a home, a car and lots of food that I like, thatâs why I am the same size!!! And now I have to go church on youâ¦.When I look back over my life and I see how far God has bought me, all I can do is throw up my hands and say thank ya Lawd!!! God is good.
Well on Sunday Glen Coker, the General Manager at Dillardâs in MacArthur Mall gave me a shopping spree so I could buy clothes for Vegas. Tell me God is not good, cause a sista was brokeâ¦.
Here are some of the clothes I tried onâ¦â¦..

Here I am last year on Labor Day heading to giveaway all these school supplies sponsored by Altschulâs and Auto Line of Norfolk. My family and friends help me pack all night. We packed over 350 bags for the babies in our community. I was so happy that I did not sleep at all the night before. For the past 5 years Reading & Succeeding with Theressa has been giving away school supplies. Well this year I did not have a sponsor and I had given up. I thought to myself, everyone is struggling and no one has money to help. So I told Kristin and Collin, I was not going to do the supply drive this year. I thought they would be happy because they donât have to pack bags all night, but they were really hurt. They told me that I should ask on the air for help. I said no, but my heart and spirit would not let me rest.
So I took their advice and to God be the glory. The donations are coming from listeners. Once again I feel so humble that you all trust me with your monies knowing that I will take care of the babies in our community. My goal this year is to giveaway more than 500 bags of school supplies. I need about five thousand dollars to make it happen. If you would like to donate please call my office 757-497-2000 ext 232 or send your donation c/o Theressa Brown 236 Clearfield Avenue Suite 206, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462.
Thank you in advance. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for caring about our babies making sure they have the right tools to start school.

Happy Birthday to my sister Sharon!!! All I know for sure is that God is good!!!! And He deserves all the praise. My sister is so much better. Just Friday night she did not know all of us, but as of yesterday she knows all of us and was smiling. All I can sing is the Praise God chant. You know when I went to church yesterday we sang the hymn, I will trust in the Lord, I will trust in the Lord, I will trust in the Lord, till I die. I will trust in the Lord, I will trust in the Lord, I will trust in the Lord, till I die. I began to cry as I sang the song and I began to let go and trust God for sister's health and He answered not only my prayer but all those who were praying that same prayer for my sister. Remember no matter how hard your trial or how bad the situation looks; know for sure that God still answers prayers.
July 16, 2009
There is a song by gospel artist Jesse Dixon, that goes like this..... I know what prayer can do, I know what prayer can do, I know what prayer can do, I know what prayer can do, I found the answer in prayer and I will tell it everywhere, I know, I know, I know what prayer can do. This song rang down in my spirit as I visited with my sister yesterday at the hospital. See she suffered a heart attack on Sunday night, and the word Monday when I saw her was not good. She was not breathing on her own and she was not looking like herself. So I began to reach out to my sista friends who I knew would pray for her. And we prayed for God to heal her. Now my sister is breathing 60 percent on her own and 40 percent with the oxygen. She was taken off of the sedative yesterday and we are just waiting for her to come out of it. Of course she has a way to go, but thank God she is not where she was on Monday. I found the answer in prayer and I will tell it everywhere, I know, I know, I know what prayer can do!! God is good all the time and all the time God is good.
July 7, 2009
Last evening I took a step aerobics class. Now mind you I have not taken a step aerobics class in years. I began talking to one sista about the class. She said that she had been taking the class for a minute and since it has been awhile for me to just take it easy. She also said that I should not add the the two planks to the step and just take it easy. Well I thought I am a runner and I am not that old and out of shape. Okay that's what my mind said, but ten minutes into the class, my body began to cuss me out!!! What the hello was I doing, I was breathing heavier than I have breathed in a long time, so you know what that means. That's so sad, but we will talk about that at another time.
Anyway my entire face turned red and I kept stopping for water breaks. Hell I needed a gallon of water, because I sucked that one bottle of water up so fast, you would have thought that I was working out in the sun all day. Hell I felt like it!!! After the class I walked out delirious not knowing what just happened to me. Did I actually stay in the class for the entire hour? I got in my car and drove home in a daze. When I walked in the house the children asked me what happened, I told them that I took a step aerobics class. Kristin looked at me like poor mommie. Collin said now mother you know you are too old to be doing that. I just walked upstairs straight to my bathroom to run a cold shower to cool off. My hair had sweated back so bad and when I took off my clothes and everything thing fell, I looked like I came scraight from the motherland. I just closed my eyes and got in the shower. That was the best cold shower and my body began to relax.
I then took a forty-five minute walk in my neighborhood. I know you are thinking had I lost my mind and the answer is yes!!!!!! Then last night I could not get in my bed. Since my bed sits up a little high, I got Collin to help me get in the bed. After a lot of stretching this morning, I am not as sore and will be back in the class on Wednesday.
