Remembering Biggie Smalls 20 Years Later
By: Kyle McCann
20 years ago today the world lost a thoughtful, poetic, and charasmatic young rapper named Christopher Wallace. But to his millions of fans, we just called him Biggie. The Notorious BIG was gunned down in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997, at just 24 years-old. Biggie's killer has never been found and theories as to what led to his murder continue to float around on the internet two decades later.
He's remembered as a hip hop legend, mixing a rhyming style uniquely his own with story-telling ability of a novelist. Many of Biggie's loved ones, friends, and fans took to social media to remember the man who was taken far too soon.
Why so many Biggie references in Hamilton? Because as a storyteller, he's unmatched. He set the bar: we're all reaching for it. #RIPBig— Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel) March 9, 2017
Fans are being asked to rap their favorite Biggie line, record it, and tweet it with #WeMissYouBig.
